Deliveries
Check out this simple guideline on my preferred file preparation.
Please complete any editing and comping prior to sending the files. However, I'm happy to do small tweaks after we start if anything comes up.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Step 1
Please Render Instruments and Amps
Virtual Instruments (Keys, Strings, etc): If using any virtual instruments please render them.
Amp Sims: If using amp simulator plugins please provide the dry DI signal as well as the amp plugin rendered. Please render amp sound but not extra effects after it like reverb.
Virtual Drums: When working with virtual drums, it helps to have each mic position as its own track (like you'd get from recording a real kit) rather than having each drum piece bounced separately. This way I can work with the overheads, rooms, and close mics individually - just like mixing a real drum kit. Having access to those separate mic channels lets me dial in the perfect balance and really make those virtual drums come alive.
Vocals: Vocals should be raw with only tuning applied (if applicable)

Using Pro Tools
When sending your Pro Tools session, feel free to leave your plugins and rough mix exactly as you have them - I love hearing your vision for the song. Just a few quick things to help make sure everything transfers smoothly:
If you've used any elastic audio, ARA plugins, or Melodyne, go ahead and print/commit those to audio.
For amp sims, I'd love to have both the plugin in the session plus a rendered version.
Make sure tracks aren't frozen.
To keep things tidy, let's clean up any extra playlists and unused files:
Select your active tracks. Hit File > Save Copy In... Check the boxes for Audio Files, Main Playlist Only, and Selected Tracks Only
If you're working at or above 48k/24bit, perfect! If not, let's bump it up to 48k/24bit when you save.
Just zip or rar the whole folder when you're done and send it over using whatever file transfer service works best for you (wetransfer, hightail, dropbox, google drive - they all work great).
Oh, and don't forget to include your rough mix!

Using Other DAWs
If you're working in a DAW other than Pro Tools, here's what works best:
Export all your tracks from the same starting point without plugins so everything lines up perfectly when imported.
Raw tracks without any plugins are what I prefer, but if any sounds rely heavily on specific plugins for their character, feel free to print those with the effects. I’ll ask if I need anything different.
